When asked about her sudden change of heart to wear bikini on the last Miss Universe pageant, Miss Indonesia Putri Raemawasti said, “My adrenaline was pumping because of the intense competition. I just wanted to give the best for my nation. What’s wrong with wearing two-pieces [bikinis]?”

Translation: wearing bikini is the best she could do for her nation?

Can you relate to the piggy there? I can, big time! Every now and then I get told how young I look — and sound. A doctor in Hungary once asked whether I was fifteen, and another time an officer asked me to pass the phone to my mom. Well, he meant to speak to me, of course.

Anyway, it’s not always compliment, I tell you. Last week during my visit to a local hospital, not less than three staffs asked me if I were married. Hee hee, they were so nice and all — in fact they’re the nicest hospital staffs I’ve ever met in Singapore. My only problem is that I’m now six-month pregnant.

Long before I came to live in Singapore, I have read that population decline has been a major problem in this wealthy island country. It did sound a bit strange for me, as I came from a place where almost everyone around my age would have had two or three children already.

But after some time I started to get the picture. The hectic lives that most people lead have caused the economy to soar — yet the population is also suffering from dwindling growth.

Let me elaborate more. If you’re a cumlaude graduate and succesful career woman in your mid-twenties, would you not look for similar feats in a partner? Don’t answer, I know! And the quest is bound to be difficult, with your job occupies most of your time. As the census in the 1980 reported, fewer women with university degrees got married.

I personally think that people, both women and men, are finding it harder to spend some time just to enjoy themselves. And if you don’t go out, where else would you have a chance to meet others? Obviously, online dating! Not only it saves you the time, it also gives you more freedom to decide things.

In the past it might have been embarrassing to go on a matchmaking session, since the process involved too many people, including the couple, their families, as well as the matchmaker. Nowadays it’s more of a private matter between a man and a woman. There are many different online dating services to meet your style.

Still confused? Check these Prime Dating Sites! They give detailed reviews of a number of matchmaking services to assist you in your quest of finding a soulmate. One tip from me though, try to avoid free dating services, unless you don’t mind getting attention from some perverts. Depending on what you’re looking for in a relationship, you may want to start to search from sites like Matchmaker.com, Friend Finder, or Yahoo Personals.

Anyways, don’t let my brief lecture on the dwindling population in Singapore deter you. Enjoy your searching, and I’ll wish you all the best!
